It was on the Road to Emmaus that our Lord Jesus Christ appeared to two disciples and revealed Himself to them from the Scriptures and in the breaking of bread (Luke 24:13-35). Our church is so named to show forth the mission of Emmaus Lutheran Church to proclaim the same Lord Jesus Christ from the Scriptures and in the breaking of bread now in the Lord’s Supper.
Since Emmaus Lutheran Church was organized on April 14th, 1901, by the preaching of the Gospel, the administering of Holy Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper, Jesus the Christ has been making and keeping disciples.
At Emmaus Lutheran church in Tripp, SD, we believe, teach, and confess that man as a corrupted sinner cannot save himself by his own reason or strength or even come to know Jesus. We worship Christ Jesus who has come as the God-Man Savior to save all mankind, and who gives eternal life to all who believe in His name. We believe that faith is a gift of God, worked in the hearts of people by the Holy Spirit, through the Gospel. We believe, teach, and confess the true Word of God as taught in the Holy Scriptures, which shall endure forever. Blessed are they that hear the Word of God and keep it. We believe, teach, and confess that all who believe and are baptized into the name of the One and only Triune God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit- shall be saved from sin, death, and the devil. We believe, teach and confess, that whoever eats and drinks of the body and blood of Jesus Christ the Lamb of God shall never die, but shall live forever with Him in glory.
Therefore, here at Emmaus Lutheran church you will hear the Gospel purely preached, and the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and the Lord’s Supper rightly administered according to the Word of our Lord Jesus Christ. We welcome you to come and receive true rest and life in the Author of Life who is with us ‘on the road to Emmaus’ to save - Jesus Christ crucified and risen!
